Growing Trees, one sec ...

3’ average height loblolly pine at the end of the first growing season?

In the South Carolina Upstate in a droughty spring and fall year, we’ll absolutely take it.

These GenTreeXT LLC loblolly pines planted in container stock in Anderson County, SC in February of this year, and pictured here on October 24, 2022, are absolutely asserting dominance. These CMP-infused seedlings won’t share the site resources; they will OWN them, and the subsequent growth will be reflected. While the average age-1 tree height is 3’, the dominant and co-dominant heights (top 50% of the trees present) are 3’ to 5’.   And this was with a significant April drought and a significant September-October high-pressure drought still set in place. What’s possible for next year? Rain and competition dependent, 4-7’ of added height growth in 2023 would be my estimate, i.e. 7' to 13' height range at the end of the 2nd growing season. What site index or growth trajectory curve is that?? A super strong one!
